SIPERNAT® 50 S and SIPERNAT® 310

Are effective as matting agents in thermoplastics such as PE, PP and ABS.
Using approx. 5 weight percent of SIPRNAT® 50 S and SIPERNAT® 310 reduces the residual gloss of extruded, semi-finished products. Beside the amount added of the matting component, the applied processing technique has an effect on the resulting matting efficiency. Generally the required dosage is higher in injection moulding in comparison to extrusion process. Here especially the selected injection moulding parameters and cavity surface have an impact on the residual gloss.
SIPERNAT® 50 S and SIPERNAT® 310 are synthetic, amorphous silica obtained by a precipitation process. In order to achieve a good matting effect, it is important to disperse the silica properly in the polymer matrix. For this we recommend to begin with the manufacture of a compound (e.g. twin screw extruder).
